It was our school turn to present our sharing session on word problems and conversion in measurements to teachers and school leaders in Brunei III. Our school was represented by Year 6 teachers cikgu Hamidah and Cikgu Hj Kairulazhar and being supported by Year 4 and 5 teachers , cikgu Hjh Ardey, cikgu Nordiani and Cikgu Rokiah. The presentation started by presenting the results on the findings by the teachers on the problems faced by the students in conversion and word problems in measurement.
The findings were supported by using Newmans error analysis and we found out that 90% of the students interviewed have problems in comprehending what is read. The presentation continued by group’s activity where each group was asked to write individually ways to overcome the problems and then discuss using the notes gathered. groups were then asked voluntarily to present their findings. To promote interactivity, our school also conducted a game where the most interactive group will win prizes. Thus there was level of competitiveness amongst the groups to participate in the activities and interactions with the facilitator.
The presentation again continued by introducing several methods in answering word problems and conversion of measurement example King Henry’s slider, visual presentation and storyline. The presentation ended by a speech by our guest of honour for the day.
